Abel Yamwaka Mreta is currently a Senior Lecturer of Linguistics in the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics, University of Dar-es-Salaam (UDSM), Tanzania.

He holds a D. Phil in Linguistics from Bayreuth University, Germany, with previous academic background in linguistics from the University of Dar-es-Salaam. Dr. Mreta teaches various linguistic courses, including Linguistic Structure, Linguistic Theory, Morphology, Advanced Morphology, African Language Option, Non-Bantu Language Structure, Historical and Comparative Linguistics, Advanced Historical and Comparative Linguistics, Linguistics Field Methods and Language Documentation/Description.

He mentors students on both descriptive and comparative studies, especially in his areas of research interest in morphology, morpho-syntax, historical and comparative linguistics, and language change.

The author of An Analysis of Tense and Aspect in Chasu, Chasu Dictionary, and Kisimbiti Lexicon has extensive publication record including in Journal of the Korean Association of African Studies, Journal of African Affairs, SAJAL, AAP Swahili Forum, Review Article in Journal of African Languages and Linguistics (JALL).
