Akosua Perbi is Professor Emerita of History at University of Ghana, Legon. She has served five terms as Head of Department of History between 1992 and 2006.

She holds a doctorate in History from University of Ghana, Legon, and is an expert in indigenous slavery in Africa and women in African history.

She was a Fulbright Scholar in residence at Manchester College in Indiana, and author of A History of Indigenous Slavery in Ghana from the 15th to the 19th Century and many refereed publications.

Prof. Perbi is a life member of the African Studies Association (USA), Fontes Historiae Africana Project of the International Union of Academics (Vienna, Austria), University Teachers Association of Ghana, and Historical Society of Ghana.

Prof. Perbi was awarded Second Ghana Women of Excellence Award in 2012 by the Ghanaian Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs, for her outstanding contribution to tertiary education.
